Low inertia motor modified for military use
PML supply motors for use in high-precision military equipment.
These motors have to meet extensive design criteria which PML achieves through detailed customisation of products.
In one of these applications, motors were required to motorise a one man gun turret and provide movement through 360deg.
PML developed one of their standard models, the GM12 and a tachometer, to meet the high specifications required for military use.
The motor had to be designed to resist shock and adverse environmental conditions that might be encountered in the field.
The customised motor was made to provide optimum speed control for the system and was renamed the GM12-HRLRD. Low inertia and high torque enabled the motor to provide excellent control response throughout a wide speed envelope. The gun turrets containing the motors are now installed and used by military personnel in Malaysia and Ireland.
In a similar military project, PML customised motors for the air filtration systems of armoured vehicles. GPM-16 motors were extensively redesigned to offer increased power while being made more compact to fit into the small space available in the system. For each armoured vehicle, two motors were required for the air conditioning system and one motor was required for the air filtration system. All motors operated within a centrifugal fan system and were made tolerant of vibrations and varying environmental conditions.
Military equipment manufacturers have consistently chosen PML motors over the years, because of their inherent reliability and a product customisation service that meets the very tough demands of the industry.
